Celebrating the life of
Son Kim Nguyen
February 18, 1973 - December 02, 2025
Son Kim Nguyen, 52, of Savannah passed away on December 2, 2025, at home under the care of Hospice Savannah and surrounded by his family. He had faced his eighteen-month fight against cancer with faith and strength.
Son was born the first of four sons to Luong Kim Nguyen and Nam Thi Nguyen on February 18, 1973, in Sa Dec, Vietnam. He and his father and two younger brothers escaped from Vietnam and were sponsored out of the refugee camp by the Rotary Club of Apex, North Carolina, in January, 1980. Son grew up there and eventually moved with his father and brothers to Savannah, Georgia, in January, 1988, when his father became pastor of Savannah Vietnamese Baptist Mission. He attended Sol C. Johnson High School and graduated from H.V. Jenkins High School in 1991, where he played trumpet in the marching band and competed on the weightlifting team. Son earned an ROTC scholarship to North Georgia State College and served as a mechanic in the Georgia National Guard, where he became a United States citizen. He graduated from Armstrong State College with a BS in Information Technologies. At the time of his death, Son was employed by Leidos as a Logistics Computer Operator.
Son was saved, and he loved the Lord and his church. He was a member of Savannah Vietnamese Baptist Church which later became Thunderbolt Baptist Church. His dedication was shown as he served as Youth Leader in both churches for over 20 years.
Son was preceded in death by his father, Luong Kim Nguyen. He is survived by his wife, Mung Thi Nguyen, and by his daughter, Grace Kim Nguyen, both of Savannah. He is also survived by two sons, Peter Kim Nguyen of the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Paul Joseph Nguyen of the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York. Other survivors include his mother, Nam Thi Nguyen, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; three brothers, Nhan(Amy) Nguyen of Houston, Texas, Ngon(Robin) Nguyen of Ashland City, Tennessee, and Dien(Lan) Nguyen of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and eight nieces and nephews: Benjamin, Isabella, Roman, Anne-Marie, Vivian, Samuel, Vianne, and Landon.

I was sorry to hear about Son. I have known Luong Nguyen's family for many years. I had Dien in RA's at Morningside Baptist. I love the whole family. Wonderful God fearing Christian family.
